These services are provided by our team of professional counsellors. All our counsellors have to go through a strict vetting process in order to start conducting sessions. All of our counselling are members of a governing body and therefore adhere to strict ethical standards.

Since the arrival of Covid-19 we have seen the need for individuals to be supported through this stress provoking time. Due to lockdown a lot of resources and services which may have normally been available to the vulnerable in the community are no longer accessible.

We have made it our priority to ensure that everyone in the community and nationally can access services that can support them with their mental health and wellbeing during these uncertain times.

Throughout this pandemic Real Talk Radio has been providing counselling support nationally. How have we been able to do this you ask? We have facilitated online counselling using Zoom and telephone counselling using voice over IP. The demand for the service has been immense. It is for this reason that we have now developed Talk Counselling.

Talk Counselling has continued to recruit professional counsellors to accommodate the growing demand for the service. As the lockdown has started to ease we have now began to provide face to face counselling at our main office in Canary Wharf.

Talk Counselling intend to provide these services now and ongoing. The feedback we have received has been unprecedented. For this reason we are continuing to support all those who need it.

Breakdown of services

Person Centred Counselling

Person Centred Counselling

Person-centred therapy, also known as person-centred or client-centred counselling, is a humanistic approach that deals with the ways in which individuals perceive themselves consciously, rather than how a counsellor can interpret their unconscious thoughts or ideas. The counsellor does not lead or dictate the sessions, the sessions are centred on the individual.

Person-centred therapy focuses on personal autonomy and your capacity to self-heal and grow. The therapist focuses on providing an environment in which the client feels free physically and psychologically to express themselves openly and honestly. Person-centred therapists validate a client’s thoughts, feelings, and behaviour as they are considered valid responses to your previous experiences. Person-centred therapists do not judge you. They allow you to naturally experience your feelings in a safe environment which helps you to discover your own inner strength and autonomy. This allows you to better overcome current and future problems.

CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy)

CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy)

Cognitive behavioural therapy is a psycho-social intervention that aims to improve mental health. CBT focuses on challenging and changing unhelpful cognitive distortions and behaviours, improving emotional regulation, and the development of personal coping strategies that target solving current problems.  It is normally a short-term therapy technique that can help people find new ways to behave by changing their thought patterns.  Engaging with CBT can help people reduce stress, cope with complicated relationships, deal with grief, and face many other common life challenges.

CBT is founded on the concept that your thoughts, feelings, physical sensations, and actions are all interconnected.  This interconnectivity can cause negative thoughts and feelings that can trap you in a vicious cycle of negativity.  CBT aims to help clients overcome problems that can be seen as insurmountable or overwhelming in a positive way. By breaking down problems into smaller more manageable parts, CBT allows people to change and overcome these negative patterns.
Unlike other treatments, CBT is focused on dealing with problems in your current life, rather than addressing issues from your past.  This makes CBT an effective way to improve your state of mind in the present and can serve as a solid foundation for other types of counselling to address your past.

Therapeutic Play for children & adults

Therapeutic Play

Through play, therapists can help children and adults learn more helpful behaviours, understand their emotions, and gain insight about resolving inner conflicts.  Through play therapy children & adults also learn self-control, self-respect, to express their feelings, problem solving, communication skills, and to modify and adjust problem behaviours.

Through play, individuals are able to express past or present traumas and access experiences that may be within the subconscious. Therapists are also able to gather information about a person’s trauma in a way that does not require their patient to directly address it. Toys can serve as symbols and allow people to share their thoughts, feelings, and emotions in a way that can feel safer to the patient.

Art Therapy

Art Therapy

Art therapy is a technique rooted in the idea that creative expression can foster healing and mental well-being.  Creating it or viewing others’ art, is used to help people explore emotions, develop self-awareness, cope with stress, boost self-esteem, and work on social skills.  Art therapy is a distinct discipline that incorporates creative methods of expression through visual art media.

By working with something tangible, art therapy allows people to focus their feelings, thoughts, and emotions on something both physical and external.  It can help to relieve stress and tension, reduce pain, and improve a person’s sense of wellbeing.  Under the guidance of a trained therapist, art therapy can have many benefits to a person’s wellbeing.

Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is a holistic healing treatment that uses natural plant extracts to promote health and well-being. Sometimes it’s called essential oil therapy. Aromatherapy uses aromatic essential oils medicinally to improve the health of the body, mind, and spirit. It enhances both physical and emotional health.

Our senses are how we connect to the physical world, and smell has been shown to have a powerful connection with memory.  By using aromatherapy, therapists are often able to help with a person’s health and wellbeing by helping them to relax, sleep better, and more easily enter a positive frame of mind.

Bereavement Counselling

Bereavement Therapy

Bereavement counselling is a specialised type of counselling that involves supporting individuals who have experienced the loss of a loved one.  This counselling helps them work through their grief in addition to learning coping mechanisms to help them manage their own grief when they are alone.

Grief can be overwhelming, and many people struggle to deal with the intense emotions after a sudden loss of a partner, family member, loved one, or close friend.  Grief can manifest in many different ways including your emotions becoming so intense it feels like you cannot go on or have severe difficulties coping with the struggles of everyday life.  It can be hard to care for children, go to work, or socialise with others.

Bereavement counselling can help you to work through your emotions and return to a healthier mental state.  Working through grief can be a difficult process, but our team of counsellors can help you to process your grief in a healthy and healing manner.  If you are dealing with the loss of a loved one, we can help.

Pregnancy counselling

Pregnancy Counselling (Doula)

AA Doula’s duty is to provide a continuous source of comfort, encouragement and support (both emotional and physical) during labour.  A Doula will help with relaxation techniques and breathing exercises, offer advice on labour positions and more.  A Doula may also act as a mediator and an advocate who is there to run interference with hospital personnel, as well as translate medical terms and explain procedures.

Before your due date, your doula will educate you about the process of labour and delivery, with the goal of making it less scary and more comfortable so you’re empowered to take a more active role in your birth.  A doula can offer a treasure trove of non-medical pain-management techniques including massage, reflexology, aromatherapy, music, and mantras; he or she will try different combinations to find the right solution for you.

Couples and family Therapy

Couples and Family Therapy

Couples therapy can sometimes be helpful if a couple feel that they may be struggling with issues in their relationship.  The idea of couples’ therapy is not to ‘fix’ but to ‘support’ the couple on their journey to a better understanding of one another.  Couples therapy provides a space for couples to talk to each other openly and in a non-bias environment.  By bringing couples together in a safe environment each partner is able to express thoughts, feelings, and emotions to their partner.  By helping couples to locate the core of their conflicts and resolve it in a nurturing manner we are able to bring couples closer together.

Couples therapy can be a great benefit during all stages of a relationship.  During the initial phase where the partners begin to grow close together it can help avoid conflict and bring the new couple together.  As couples begin to live together or marry, couples therapy can be vital for helping to communicate physical and emotional needs.  Finally, couples therapy can be a great form of relationship maintenance to maintain your strong bond to each other.

The usual goals of family therapy are improving communication, solving family problems, understanding, and handling special family situations, and creating a better functioning home environment.  Family therapy, like couples therapy, brings everyone together to freely share their feelings, thoughts, and emotions.  Being able to openly discuss your concerns with your family can help them to understand each other’s needs.  Our team of skilled counsellors can assist you and your family in addressing problems and growing closer together.

Alcohol Misuse

Alcohol & Substance Misuse

Alcohol and other substance abuse are becoming increasingly more common in the UK.  Many people turn to substances to help with physical, mental, or emotional problems. What may start as an occasional, or recreational thing can often lead to long term consequences. Drugs and alcohol can end up interfering with work, school, intimate relationships, friendships, and daily life. It can be difficult to realise things have gotten out of control, and can often seem unmanageable or impossible to overcome.

Our staff of counsellors and the organisations that we are in partnerships with, have experience helping people just like you, to overcome alcohol or substance misuse problems.  We are here to help you deal with all stages of your recovery, and for you to get your life back.
